What Is Botox and How Does It Work?
In the past, Botox was used to treat hyperactive muscle conditions and cerebral palsy. Nowadays, it is also, and more popularly, used to reduce the early signs of aging.
Botox is a non-invasive and non-surgical procedure which takes approximately 10 minutes. Botox or Botulinum Toxin A (produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum) causes the release of acetylcholine to be blocked. This affects the nerves that lead to your muscles, automatically causing those muscles to relax. This relaxing agent causes a temporary paralysis of the muscles, which in turn, greatly diminishes your crow's feet, frown lines and wrinkles.
Your Thunder Bay Botox Technician will inject the Botox agent into the muscles that are causing your facial lines. Tiny amounts of the agent are injected. This treatment is relatively painless, but very effective. While Botox is best used for muscle-related wrinkles (expression lines, frown lines, and crow's feet), it can also be used on wrinkles caused by other means, such as sun exposure or smoking, but the results may not be as dramatic.
Many men and women turn to Botox, as it is a relatively inexpensive way to look younger and happier.

What Happens During Treatment?
Botox is an extremely safe and quick procedure, which takes approximately 10 minutes in our clinic. It is commonly known as a "lunch time" procedure, as it is non-invasive and requires no down time. Your Thunder Bay Botox Technician will begin by cleaning the areas of the face where injection will take place. A mild antiseptic is used to clean these areas. The Botox agent is then injected using a tiny needle into the specific muscles that are causing your wrinkling. Not all facial muscles will be injected with Botox, so your natural facial expression is maintained. The treatment is very quick, allowing you to carry on with the rest of your day as you normally would.

Is There Any Pain or Side Effects Associated With Treatment?
Because only very small amounts of Botox are injected using a very fine needle, there is very little pain. It may feel very similar to a bug bite. Since this is a relatively painless procedure, no sedation or local anesthetic are needed.
Common side effects include mild bruising at injection site, headache, respiratory infection, temporary eyelid droop, nausea and flu symptoms. Botox treatments are temporary, so the longest any side effect can possibly last is 6 months, although the majority of side effects disappear within a week.

How Soon Will I See Results?
You will begin to notice visible improvements within a couple of days. Your face will appear smoother and younger-looking, without looking frozen or expressionless. Your frown lines will begin to disappear, giving you a newly rejuvenated appearance.

How Long Do Results Last?
The effects of your Botox treatment will last anywhere from 3 to 4 months. It is recommended that you continue to receive treatments after this time period to maintain your rejuvenated appearance. Once you have received several treatments, you will find that the effects of the procedure will last longer.
